To Jog's raging waters
Jog Falls, in Shimoga district of Karnataka, is the highest waterfall in India. The Sharavathi river cascades down 829 feet to form this waterfall.
But for me, it was just another place. I used to visit my grandfather every summer as a kid. Jog Falls is a half hour drive from my grandfather's house in Talaguppa. We would drive past the falls every time we visited relatives who lived close by.
Airfare for Rs 599 and less!
One summer it seemed like my grandfather's garden hose sprayed more water than the Jog Falls! I always wondered what all the hype was about.
And then it happened. Because of heavy rains in the catchment areas along the Western Ghats that year, the waterfalls in that region were in full force offering breathtaking views.
The celebrity among them was the Jog Falls. As the Linganamakki Dam built across the Sharavathi river filled up to the brim, the gates were opened. Television channels and newspapers flashed reports on how Jog Falls was at its powerful best, a scene that was last seen 12 years ago.
