Sliding down the snow

At Gulmarg, we opted for a short gondola (cable car) ride. For the longer ride, you have to sign bonds that you are moving at your own risk. We thought, let us start with the smaller route first and experience it. In about 20 minutes we reached the destination.

In hindsight, I must tell you that the gondola ride is a must-do experience. The weather was just fabulous. But do remember to have lunch before the ride, as there are no proper places on the way.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

It was quite sunny when we reached our destination, and we thought it was a waste of money -- but soon it rained heavily for a while and got quite chilly. In the meantime we had Pakoras and coffee at the restaurant.

Once the rain stopped, we hired horses at Rs 150 each and went to the 'snow spots.' Then we hired wooden carriages for Rs 100 each. The carriagewallah pulled us to the top of the snow point and we rode down, sliding. It was a wonderful experience.

We were planning to go ahead and take the longer gondola ride, when it was announced that the gondola rides to the top of the mountain have been cancelled because of disturbances in the weather. So, it was time to head back.

Next day, we flew back to Delhi. We can only say that Jammu and Kashmir was a brilliant trip!
