As Deputy Prime Minister and second in command to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the BJP stalwart clearly had an eye on the Prime Minister's chair. But now, with his party's epochal collapse, Lal Kishenchand Advani will have to patiently wait his turn. With a margin of 217,138 votes, Advani had a comfortable victory over his rival, Gabhaji Thakore of the Congress.
