The People's Democratic Party won no more than a single seat in Jammu and Kashmir, the sole victor being party chief Mehbooba Mufti. On the campaign trail she escaped three attempts on her life. She defeated her nearest National Conference rival Mehboob Beg by a margin of about 38,000 votes.
