That and lunch over, it was time for something to cool off. And what better than a visit to the International Antarctic Centre, one of Christchurch's leading visitor attractions. It is from here many Antarctic missions are organised. The centre is designed to bring a powerful and memorable experience of Antarctica to visitors in an exciting and informative way.
At the Antarctic centre you are taken through a snow and ice experience. There is a polar room that has real snow and ice. It is a chilling experience. You have to wear special warm jackets and overshoes to get inside the room that witnesses the temperature drop to -8 degrees celsius and brave a wind chill machine that blows into your already frozen skin at -18 degrees Celsius in an 'Antarctic Storm' .
That's not all. There are penguins there too. You can also slide down an icy slope and shelter in an ice cave. With stunning lighting, authentic Antarctic blizzard audio and 40 kms winds, certainly a rich experience. If you are in Christchurch, don't miss it.
