The two-hour trip to the top of Aoraki/Mount Cook was rather scary for one afraid of heights, but with no time to make it there on foot that was the best option to get there and enjoy a bird's eye view of the place.
You are swept away by the landscape of the flat Canterbury Plains, hydro dams, blue waters of Lake Tekapo, the pristine alpine environment over the Southern Alps' soaring peaks, Mount Cook -- New Zealand's highest mountain at 3754 metres -- and the Tasman Glacier.
