Not only has Pietersen been found wanting with the bat (80 runs in five matches), his captaincy skills have also come into question. Team selection too has not been inspiring either, with Pietersen once mentioning at the toss there were no changes in his team but later, to everyone's surprise, there were three.

One fails to understand why Dale Steyn is not being included in the team, especially when the matches are being played in his own country and the other Bangalore bowlers struggling.

The team clearly lacks purpose and vision; quite often they have crumbled in tense situations. It is indeed fitting that they occupy the last rung in the league table with just one victory from five matches. It is hard to see where the next victory will come from.

Pietersen is set to depart after playing a couple of more matches and, maybe, that should be a blessing in disguise for the team.
