Brendon McCullum (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Rating: 2/10

Kolkata Knight Riders had India's most successful captain in their line-up, but, somehow, they felt he was not good enough to lead their team in the second edition of the IPL. John Buchanan used all his powers to demote Sourav Ganguly and appointed New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum, who had no experience of leading the team, as the new skipper.

There was also talk of the Kolkata side trying out multiple captains, but two weeks into the tournament all their plans have failed.

All the theories Buchanan tried have fallen flat with Kolkata having just one victory infive outings.

McCullum hardly seems in control of things and the less spoken about his batting the better, especially after his aggregate of just 26 runs from four games. The decision to bowl Ajantha Mendis in the ‘Super Over' against Yusuf Pathan came in for severe criticism.

Mashrafe Mortaza was supposed to be their key player after being bought for a high price in the auction, but he is yet to get a game. He was a top performer for Bangladesh the last few seasons, but he is forced to sit out, with Buchanan preferring players like Moises Henriques, Brad Hodge, Akash Chopra, Ashok Dinda and Sanjay Bangar.

Kolkata's performance is dipping with every game. It reached its nadir on Monday with the humiliating 92-run loss to Mumbai. Simply put, only a miracle can save the team.

So, who has been your pick as the IPL's best captain so far? Vote for your favourite captain!
