Yannick Noah (France) in 1983
He was the first Frenchman to win the men's singles title at Roland Garros in 37 years, since Marcel Bernard in 1946, and remains the last man from his country to win the French Open.
Yannick Noah's moment of glory came in 1983, and, simply put, was quite emphatic.

He dropped only one set in seven matches and dispatched defending champion Mats Wilander of Sweden with utter disdain (in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, 7-6) in the final.
The Frenchman won 22 other titles in his prolonged career (spanning nearly 20 years) but never came close to winning another major, his best being a semi-final appearance at the Australian Open in 1990.
