SPORT Mahesh & Max second best Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Max Mirnyi ended the year as the second-ranked doubles pair in the world. The Indian doubles specialist had a very good year and won five Masters events but success eluded Bhupathi and Mirnyi at the Grand Slams. Their best performance in a Grand Slam was at Wimbledon where they lost the final to Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden and Todd Woodbridge of Australia. Bhupathi's estranged doubles partner Leander Paes indicated that the two would pair up in January to play a few tournaments in the lead-up to the Olympics in Athens.
