Faring worse than its troubled neighbour, Afghanistan is ranked 138 out of 167 countries. It manages to garner a score of only 3.02.
The Taliban-infested country scores a shocking 0.79 in government functioning, raising serious questions about the performance of the United States-backed Hamid Karzai government.
The country falls under the category of 'authoritarian regimes' -- nations which have scored less than 4.
The EIU notes that more than one third of the world's population still lives under authoritarian rule.
