'Everyone is sad in this country'

April 5, 2009
BSP is fielding 24 candidates in Tamil Nadu, includes three former IAS officers, two Muslims, one Brahmin, two Christians and one from the backward class. One of the candidates is the wife of a man convicted in numerous murders.

Speaker after speaker exhorted the crowd to make Mayawati the Prime Minister. That was their single point agenda.

"Nobody, including the government in this state has addressed the problem of poverty or joblessness. Though Dr Ambedkar gave us reservation in all government sectors these governments make new rules everyday to make sure that Dalits do not qualify for the same," Mayawati said.

"I will make sure there is reservation for the poor among the upper caste too. I have seen that every strata of society whether they are farmers, shop keepers, industrialists or professionals, everyone is sad in this country.
