Russian Muslims congregate in front of the main mosque in Moscow. Russia's 20 odd million Muslim population is extremely diverse both ethnically and geographically as well by tradition -- Adyghe, Balkars, Chechens, Circassians, Ingush, Kabardin, Karachay, Tatars, Bashkirs and Dagestanis are some of the numerous Muslim groups that live within its borders. Muslims have been living in Russia since the 8th century.
In European Russia Muslim customs are sometimes similar to Christian ones. For instance in Dagestan, southwestern Russia, at Ramzan and Eid eggs are painted and the same Halwah that is cooked for Easter is had -- made from flour and honey.
A visit to the cemetery to remember the dead is obligatory and rice and candy are offered at graves.
