'India is one of USA's best friends'

September 03, 2008
Putnam said, "This is interesting times in which we live and this is a pivotal election. Obviously, we have very important developments moving forward between our nation and the nation of India -- the world's largest democracy and one of the United States of America's best friends in the world, frankly, at a time when we need all the friends that we can get".

He argued that "it is vitally important that we move forward with the nuclear bill, vitally important that we make sure that the situation in Pakistan is stable."

"It is vitally important that we continue to invest in relationships around the world through trade agreements and through other negotiations to let our friends know that we appreciate their friendship and what they do for the United States," Putnam, a member of the Financial Services Committee, said.

Putnam lauded the Indian American community 'for what you do -- to allow people like Joe Wilson and Bobby Jindal and Adam Putnam to have the privilege to serve in our government.'

"And, thank you for what you are doing to help make sure that John McCain is the next President of the United States," he added.
