Mulford said the US consulate will function out of this temporary facility for five or six years and then move in to its permanent campus at Gachi Bowli, to be built with an investment of $ 60 million.
"It is very, very rare for the United States to open a large new consulate. This is a large, full-service consulate", Mulford said. The consulate, which will initially have seven Americans and 12 locally engaged staff, will start visa processing and other consular operations from the middle of December.
"We will increase our operations by 10 per cent every few weeks and by May we will handle 100,000 visa applications a year from May next year", said consul general Keur. By the time the consulate will move to its permanent campus, it will have 40 Americans and 100 locally engaged staff."
