He went on to list the Iraq War as one of Senator McCai'’s biggest failings, calling him 'stubborn' for not agreeing to a timely withdrawal that even George W Bush has agreed to endorse. He said that if John McCain wants to discuss who will be the more competent commander in chief, he was 'ready to have that debate'.
As for criticism that Democrats are too weak to lead America in a time of war, Obama boldly asserted, "We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don't tell me that Democrats won't defend this country. Don't tell me that Democrats won't keep us safe. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has squandered the legacy that generations of Americans -- Democrats and Republicans -- have built, and we are here to restore that legacy."
