Indian-Americans make their presence felt at Democratic Convention

August 26, 2008
Several of the Indian American delegates, Democratic Party committee members, special guests and others attending the convention were also present. The occasion marked the unveiling of the 2008 Almanac of Indian American Democrats, which featured in-depth profiles of almost 100 politically active Indian American Democrats across the country.

Strickland predicted that Goyal would be a future governor of Ohio. "In Ohio, we are a diverse state and Ohioans speak more than 40 different languages and we have ethnic groups from 336 different backgrounds. Within that diversity, we are very fortunate to have a growing Indian population that brings with it the treasured traditions and a wonderful commitment to community."

"I am proud to say that since the last Census period, the Indian population in Ohio has grown 86 percent," he said. "I am also proud to say that Indian households have the highest incomes and the highest educational attainments among all the ethnic groups in America and in Ohio."

Strickland spoke of the burgeoning trade and commerce relations between Ohio and India and added that he was looking forward to leading a trade mission to India sometime early next year.
