Chennai's kacheri at the park

September 11, 2007

Deepika and Aparna were just 8 and 6 when they performed at the Sunday Kacheri last year, their first ever. They were also the youngest to be a part of this initiative.

But today, on September 9, 2007, when they sit down on the floor to sing after Swetha and Deeptha, there are curious onlookers. And when they start singing Radha Sametha Krishna in their full-throated voice, all are stunned. And by the time they finish, there is a huge round of applause for them.

Bindu, their mother, says, "The experience of singing without mike and speakers in their first kacheri was in a way very good for them. The kind of response their singing got from the audience was extremely confidence-boosting. There was no stage fear as they were very small."

After the kacheri at the park, they got a chance to sing in a temple but the sisters say, "We prefer singing without mike. Here, it is very open and you can hear birds when you sing.”

Little Aparna adds, "I like it here because it is very fresh early in the mornings. I like trees and birds a lot!"
