Parkinson's disease: Yoga to the rescue
April 11, 2007
A crowd of over 100 attended the session including PD patients, family members, well-wishers and medical practitioners from the city. The yoga instructors demonstrated some of the asanas from the total 15 to 20 prescribed asanas, including Tadasana (the art of standing), Supta Padangusthasana (the reclining big toe pose), Bharadvajasana and Sarvangasana.
According to Rajvi Mehta, a disciple of Iyengar, Sarvangasana is the most favourite among Parkinson's patients. They are even able to do a complex posture like Sirsasana using simple props.
