Parkinson's disease: Yoga to the rescue

April 11, 2007
"Parkinson's disease disconnects the brain and body. Yoga will help re-establish this connection. Life always flows forward, like a river. Anything backward is dead. Through Yoga I am trying to instill life into their rigid muscles and help them look ahead in life," Iyengar said.

Since PD patients have no control over their bodies, Iyengar has introduced some practical props like wooden blocks to ensure that even they can perform the asanas.

Iyengar and his disciples conducted two sessions. 60 PD patients attended the sessions.
