Connecticut's long-time Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman wins again -- this time, as an Independent, defeating Ned Lamont, who had trounced him in the Democratic primary earlier this year. The race served up an interesting choice -- Lamont, on the Democratic ticket, and Lieberman, a lifelong Democrat, who during the primaries had been attacked for his presumed closeness to President George W Bush.
Republicans in the region voted largely for Lieberman, who backs the Iraq policy of the White House -- but the Senator has said that if re-elected, he will vote with the Democrats on most issues.
