The usual slogans of ‘Bush go back’ and ‘Manmohan come to your senses’ rent the air. Then, the Samajwadi Party entered the fray, bringing their own colour to the rally. Some had come from as far as Gorakhpur and the Nepal border.
The Samajwadi Party youth wing, with members wearing red caps, were the most boisterous. They shouted more aggressive slogans than the communists. Bush was called the killer of Iraq, the killer of Afghanistan and the man with blood on his hands. Some wanted to put him in a zoo, while others had more dramatic and violent ideas.
The police were out in full force, but they left the rallyists alone, concentrating on keeping traffic off the roads instead. All roads along the route had been blocked, and drivers could be seen sitting and fuming everywhere. The police were heavily armed, but they kept to themselves. It does help to be part of the government, which the communists are.
