Where Ganapati is more than a god

Kasba Ganapati

Established: 1893

The Kasba Ganapati is steeped in history.

This was the Ganeshotsav that Lokmanya Tilak himself started.

The Kasba Ganpati Mandir was started by Maratha king Shivaji's mother Jijamata in 1630.

Here, Ganesh sits on a 40 kg silver throne, and sports gold ornaments that weigh 1.8 kg.

And, he departs in style too, on a silver palanquin.

One day in the festival is reserved specially for women. They sing the bhajans, they do the aarti and they play the shehnai.

This year, the organising committee has adopted Hallwa village in Satara, which was badly affected by the floods.
