The WSF is a worldwide movement against globalisation and multinationals. It offers people a forum to discuss alternatives to the present world order, which is dominated by the United States, and big corporations.

Brazilians hosted the first three editions of the meet. It moved out of the South American country to draw attention to problems in other parts of the world.

Veteran activists say the WSF will go wherever MNCs exploit natural and human resources to enrich themselves.
