Simhastha' refers to the lion, or Leo, and denotes Jupiter's movement into the zodiac Leo, or Simha Rasi.

During the month-long Simhastha Kumbh, five days are specially auspicious on which the main baths, or 'snaan', take place: April 5, April 19, April 22, April 24 and May 4. The last, a full moon day, is the shahi snaan.
