Feroze Ahmed Sharif lost two members of his family in the blast at Zaveri Bazar. The government announced a compensation of Rs 200,000 for each of the deceased. The family has only received Rs 30,000 each so far.

His son Gulzar says he has made two trips to Mantralaya, the Maharashtra government secretariat and six or seven rounds of the collector's office.

"They tell us it will take longer for the disbursement of compensation, but I know some people who have received the cheque of Rs 2 lakhs. I even showed the collector a photocopy of a cheque that was given and he said it was in Thana jurisdiction -- as if Mumbai and Thana are not in Maharashtra!"

Two of the family's shops were destroyed in the Nav Nidhan building. Apart from the loss of family, goods worth Rs 300,000 could not be salvaged. Feroze was also injured and is tending his fractured arm.

Today Gulzar and his father do not have a shop and come and sit for a couple of hours at a relative's shop close by. They are uncertain of how long it will be before the building which housed their shop is restored. "It could take 7, 8 months, let us see," says Gulzar.

But the father and son share great faith in Zaveri Bazar -- the area which has been brought them their livelihood -- for 60 years.

"You just look around," says Gulzar pointing to the street outside, "does it look as if there was a blast here a month ago? It's first class now."
