In West Bengal, Dussehra is also celebrated as Durga Puja, a festival that begins during Navratri. Community pujas are organised in every locality. Families visit one another to partake of elaborate feasts. On Bijoya Dashami, idols of Durga, consort of Lord Shiva, are taken in elaborate processions for immersion in a body of water.

Here, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee performs an aarti to 'Ram' and 'Lakshman' at the Ramlila Grounds in New Delhi on Sunday.
