As the news of Hussein's capture trickled out, small groups of people came out in Baghdad in celebration.
Countries that are a part of the US-led coalition called Hussein's capture a great day for humankind. Many US lawmakers have asked for Saddam to be tried in Iraq and not in the Hague.
Joe Lieberman, a Democratic senator running for president, said Saddam should only stand trial in a tribunal with the power to impose the death penalty. "This evil man has to face the death penalty. The international tribunal in the Hague cannot order the death penalty," Lieberman said on NBC television.
