Legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar was nominated as a member of Parliament last year.

Mangeshkar, who has ruled the Hindi film music industry for over 50 years, has more than 40,000 songs to her credit. Her stint as MP, however, has come in for a fair amount of criticism, particularly from former Rajya Sabha MP and actress Shabana Azmi. Mangeshkar had replied, "When I was offered the prestigious position, I had expressed my inability to be constantly present in Parliament."
