Shoot orders for third phase of Bihar panchayat polls

Amid shoot orders and security on high alert, the stage is set to hold the third phase poll in 1,569 panchayats in Bihar on Thursday.

Thirty people, including policemen, lost their lives in widespread violence that took place during the first and second phase of polling on April 11 and April 15.

Official sources said district magistrates have issued shoot orders against those who would make sinister attempt to capture booths, loot ballots and ballot boxes at polling centres.

State Home Secretary U N Panjiar said all police stations have been put on maximum alert and police patrolling intensified in the extremist-hit areas to ensure fair, free and peaceful polls.

Inter-state borders connecting West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand have already been sealed to prevent entry of anti-social elements.
