Known more perhaps for a kleptomaniac Rajnikanth, a charismatic western singer Kamal Haasan and a pretty young thing Jayaprada who took her first step into Tamil, this movie boasts of characters that were relatively new to Tamil cinema at that time -- a hallmark of K Balachander.

Even with its mandatory song and dance routines, this movie made everyone sit up.
