'If I take the songs away, people will not understand what is happening'

Were you shooting with the same people simultaneously?

No. Except for Maddy and Neetu Chandra, the cast for the Tamil and Hindi films are totally different. I shot both the versions simultaneously.

Wasn't it tough?

It was tough, and I do not have that much experience in filmmaking too. It was difficult and tiring but I think I have pulled it off.

P C Sreeram handles the camera here. He is very particular about the films he does. What made him agree to do your film?

He wanted to read the script first. After reading the script, he asked for a narration. He was happy and said, 'This is a good story. I have never done the genre before. I will be a part of this film.'

I would say his joining the team was the biggest blessing for me. Getting to meet P C Sreeram and learning from him every day was an enlightening and enriching experience for me. We had a great time together. I don't know how the 75 days went by. I remember starting the film and the next thing I knew, my film was complete.

How different is Yaavarum Nalam going to be from other Tamil films?

I know it's cliched to say but it is a different film. The narrative is new; even the genre is relatively new.

Songs are by Shankar Ehsan Loy. Are songs very important in the film?

Yes, they are. All the four songs take the story forward. I have made them situational. If I take them away, people will not understand what is happening.
