How did Anurag Kashyap come into the picture?
Anurag and I go back a long way. He is the perfect guy to make this movie. We watched a football match together and then I narrated the idea to him. He loved it.
But his last film (No Smoking) bombed at the BO. Weren't you apprehensive about bringing him on board?
I was never apprehensive. Whatever you say about No Smoking, you can't deny the fact that it is a well-made film. Plus, I don't look at a person's commercial success. I too have had a number of unsuccessful movies to my credit. So who am I to judge? Anurag is my friend and I respect him as a filmmaker. I have faith in him.
How did you prepare for the role?
I dug into my own life and also tried to go by what the writer intended. The writer intended to provoke the reader to show an upset, addictive, spoilt rich kid who is out of place in his environment. It is an urban character so I did not have to work on my body language or speech that much. What I did work on was the emotions and the personality of this guy. That's where the script came in handy.
