'Akshay had to hold Karisma and his hands were shaking'
Earlier, only stars got colour pages in magazines, newcomers got a black and white slot. But after my request, my editor gave Akshay a full colour page on G magazine, with a story. (Director) Pramod Chakravorty saw his picture, and contacted the G magazine office. He met Akshay, and signed him on for Deedar.
We started looking for a heroine but I would reject all the girls that applied. I even said no to Nagma. Akshay starting getting upset and impatient. Eventually, Karisma Kapoor was signed.
On the first day of the film's photoshoot, Akshay was very nervous. He had to hold Karisma and his hands were shaking. Karisma had done films earlier, but it was Akshay's first. He had a complex, as he thought Karisma and Babitaji (who was also at the shoot) were very big.
