"When he first told us that he did not want to be a doctor, we did not take him seriously. We thought he would change his mind because first, he wanted to be a singer. Then, he wanted to act in a Hollywood film. We told him to polish up on his Hindi if he wanted a career in Bollywood but he only wanted Hollywood. It became a joke in the family. Now, his dream has come true," she smiles.

But wasn't she apprehensive about his negative role? "Initially, we were a little apprehensive about his character. But then we talked about it, and two factors helped us make the decision -- first, that it would be a challenging role, and secondly, Danny Boyle. We had great confidence in him. We knew our son was in safe hands."
