Cujo, 1983
Unlike its cosy, furry, bear-hug inviting image, a St Bernard's is portrayed as a rather fearsome character in Lewis Teague's Cujo, inspired by Stephen King's novel of the same name.
All hell breaks loose for his young master and horrified mom after Cujo is bitten by a bat infected with rabies. What follows is an edge-of-the-seat experience that compels you to think twice before getting a pet.
Interestingly a Rottweiler was employed to pass off as St Bernard's in a few sequences because the latter wasn't convincingly menacing.
