What is exciting about Evam?
When many say that theatre has no future, here is a group that has turned itself around. We started off as a company by investing Rs 2 lakh. Today, we are a company with a turnover of Rs 1.5 crore.
I have six full time employees in the average age group of 22-23 who actually run the company (no acting and directing required). I am too old for Evam and I don't run it. I only fuel the movement that is Evam.
Five years from now, Evam will be a 150 member company. Youngsters who believe that they can change anything will be a part of Evam; they will do not only theatre, but anything that will bring about change.
When I was 25, there was a Mani Ratnam who gave me 10 minutes and answered all my queries. There was a Naseeruddin Shah who sat with me and Sunil to explain all the queries that we had. Now, we are in the role of fuelling the dreams of many other 25-year olds.
Today, we operate across four cities. Next year, we will be in 12 cities in India -- from Gurgaon to Kolkatta and from Chennai to Mumbai.
Does Evam plan to make films too?
Evam will produce its first film in 2010-11.
