Very, very fulfilling. As far as the market is concerned, it is my first solo hit.

How did the film happen?

I will be very honest. I was the fourth choice for the hero. It is a very small budget film. Vijay told me that he couldn't pay me much as they were shooting on a very tight budget. I assured him that it was fine with me as I was impressed with the finesse with which he had made his first film, Kireedom. It is a Priyadarshan production and I had enjoyed Khosla ka Ghosla.

What was your reaction when you came to know that you would be playing Uppilinathan?

I found it really funny! I knew people would laugh at the name. This character is special because people came out of the threatre and remembered Uppili and not Karthik Kumar. That is fantastic for an actor like me. Many people call me Uppili when they see me. They would ask, Uppili eppadi irukkunge? I feel very nice when I get such queries.

Did you expect this film to have such a fantastic opening?

We did not expect such a good opening but we knew it would work. We worked hard to get a good initial opening. All those who saw the film found it very emotionally entertaining.
