Major Ravi started his stint in films as a technical expert for Pukar, even while he was in the Army. He continued his foray in films like China Gate and Alavandhan before joining Priyadarshan as an assistant director. He then co-directed Punarjani with Rajesh Amanakara.
It was Kirtichakra, with Mohanlal, that made him one of the most sought after directors in the business. The film was shot in Kashmir and was based on a story where the army successfully takes on a terrorist outfit.
The major even won the Kerala State Film award for the best screenplay for Kirtichakra. The next film, Mission 90 Days with Mammootty as the hero, however was a dud at the box office.
The film narrated the efforts made by a group of commandos to nab the culprits behind the murder of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
