'Art' films and today's audience
Though changes have taken place in the taste of the audience in Karnataka and even Kerala, the films themselves have not changed. The only exception is Hindi films, which are being made for today's audience.
Sometimes, I ask filmmakers with whom I work with, if some of our films not in the old mould of 1970s. But they do not agree with me. The main thing is the pace of the film which is extremely slow for today's generation.
Not only in cinema, but in all aspects, the pace of life has become faster. In the 1970s, could anyone have thought that a man could run 100 metres in less than 10 seconds? Communication has also become faster. But the filmmakers who made a mark in the 1970s are stuck in that period.
If you look at European or Latin American cinema, you will see that the cinematic style, the editing pattern, etc have changed dramatically over the years. People like Girish are very much aware of the changes taking place, and is changing accordingly.
Future projects
I have finished Manju Bora's Assamese film, Aai Kot Naai and T V Chandran's Vilapanganlkku Appuram. Now, I am composing music for Shaji N Karun's Malayalam film Kutti Sranku and S M Raju's Tamil film Varnam.
