'I had the flute playing a bubbly kind of tune in the background'

Composing the music for Gulabi Talkies

Gulabi is a mid-wife from the Muslim community but I have not used any music that is associated with the Muslim community like I did in Haseena.

In the case of Gulabi, certain incidents take place not because she is a Muslim but because of other circumstances. It is only incidental that she is a Muslim.

As her husband has left her, there is a certain amount of loneliness in her life. She is also a motherly figure to the villagers at a different level. We bring out her fascination for films only gradually.

Normally I create different themes for a film.

Gulabi theme

The main theme of Gulabi Talkies was the Gulabi theme, which had a kind of lonely music using rural and basic flute. There was also an element of happiness, pathos and mystery in her loneliness. She was not a weepy woman. So, I had the flute playing a bubbly kind of tune in the background.
