The Most Unconventional Heroes
Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun's very first film -- Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya (1976) -- won him a National Award. But despite the honour, Mithun got small supporting roles in his forthcoming movies. His dark complexion got him mostly roles of a markedly lower-caste nature.
All this finally changed with Disco Dancer (1982), where he played a flashy pop star. The film got him a foothold in the film industry, and Mithun went on to becoming a big star.
