Mithun Chakraborty in Guru
It is difficult to adequately express nobility. It is harder still to do this while reinventing yourself for a Hindi film audience that has not seen your great regional work, and still draws from the young-dancer or badly-accented-B-movie-star reference immortally emblazoned in its collective consciousness.
Mithun was the finest thing in Mani Ratnam's Guru, the veteran actor playing a morally strong newspaper publisher. Defiant, dramatic, uncompromising and clearly intelligent, it's a role the actor ought to cherish.
