The year 2008 can be described as one of the worst years in the Kannada film industry, as most of the releases bombed at the box office. Gulabi Talkies was the only silver lining, with its brilliant direction.

Gulabi Talkies, based on the story written by feminist writer Vaidehi, is the best thing that happened to Kannada cinema this year. It is Girish Kasaravalli's best film till date.
The film won the best Indian film award and Umashri won the best actress award at the 10th Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. Issac Thomas' background score and S Ramachandra's captivating photography are the other highlights of the film.
