This is your first in many aspects -- your first time in Bollywood, and shooting a film in the Hindi language. You have a Bollywood cast, with new crew as well -- you're working with cinematographer Ravi K Chandran for the first time. How was the experience? Did you feel sidelined at any point?
Not at all. Nobody thought differently of me or considered me an outsider. It was a very exciting new new experience for me. I wasn't scared or nervous. I took it up as a challenge. When I had such supportive people, why worry?
Why did you sign in Ravi Chandran? Why not the original cinematographer, Rajasekhar, who did the Tamil film?
Ravi Chandran and I live closeby in Chennai. We go for morning walks together. I have always wanted to work with him. When this opportunity came, I could think of no other. Secondly, it gets boring when you work with the same people on the same film. If Rajasekhar were to do the Hindi film, it would be the same camera with the same angles. Nothing would be different.
I wanted to see the film from a different perspective. Since this is a visually oriented film, I knew Ravi would do the best work. Rajasekhar did not feel offended, it is part of the trade. He took it in his stride.
