The verdict is unanimous. Parvathy as Mari in Sasi's Tamil movie Poo is simply marvellous. The performance has been described as an award-winning one a la Priya Mani in Paruthiveeran.
In this interview, Parvathy, the final year student of English literature from Trivandrum, Kerala, talks about how she transformed herself into Mari, a village girl in Tamil Nadu.
When director Sasi offered you, an urban Kerala girl, the role of a rural Tamil girl, what was your initial reaction?
Though I didn't ask Sasi Sir why he chose me, he has said in many interviews very flattering things about me. It seems my photograph reminded him of Mari!
I am the first person he auditioned and then he selected me. I had no second thoughts about Poo. It is amazing that Sasi Sir decided to take someone who is totally alien to Mari's culture, which shows his conviction.
I was very curious about Mari and I needed to know her completely. As I like challenging myself psychologically, it turned out to be an interesting task for me to understand and be Mari. It was like living and experiencing the life of someone I was unaware of till then.
