Meet Malayalam cinema's new best director

In the recently announced Kerala state film awards, Adayalangal -- a film based on the life and stories of noted writer P C Gopalan, better known by his pseudonym Nandanar -- was adjudged the best film of 2007. The film also won the best cinematography award, as well as the best director award.

M G Sasi, the new best director, is, however, better known for his short films and documentaries; he won a National Award in 2002 for his documentary Kanavumalayilekku.

Yes, Adayalangal -- which features debutant Govind Padmasurya and Jyothirmayee in the lead roles -- is Sasi's debut feature film as a director.

In an exclusive interview, the director talks about his film and more.
