The India factor: Mira Nair's colourful adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray's celebrated novel, Vanity Fair painted a notorious picture of 19th century England. While Reese Witherspoon climbed her way up the social ladder as the impossibly ambitious Becky Sharp, Nair grabbed the opportunity to highlight embellished elephants and fancily dressed dancers in a spectacularly staged sequence in Rajasthan's Jodhpur.
