Meena's association as a co-star with Rajni started when she was four years old. She acted with him as Rosi, a terminally ill child, in Anbulla Rajnikanth. Rajni played himself.

Those days she would address Rajni as 'Rajni uncle.' Later, when Meena was in her teens, she became one of top Tamil heroines. Though she was thrilled to act as the superstar's heroine (she was almost half his age then!), she found it 'embarrassing' to act as his lady love, after calling him uncle.

The Rajni-Meena combination became very successful and they gave big hits like Muthu, Veera and Yejaman. Muthu made Rajni very popular in Japan and opened a lucrative market for Tamil films.
