Star Wars, 30 years on

Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (2002)

The Story: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker discover there is more that meets the eye behind an assassination attempt on Naboo Senator Padme Amidala's life. Meanwhile, a Sith Lord orchestrates events between the forces of good and evil, all the while waiting to play the final move that will ensure him control of the galaxy.

Episode II had a meatier plot as compared to the first part, more action, a tighter screenplay and an awesome spectacle of a climax which reminded me at times of a fight with Jabba when rescuing Princess Leia.

It is hard to judge these films, as they took me back to my childhood memories of the film, the myth that you have been living in your head, and realising the origins of the characters you role-played with broomsticks acting as light sabers.

By the way, am I the only one to notice it or did anyone else also notice the striking similarity between the assassination attempt on Padme with the metal spiders and the spiders in Steven Speilberg's Minority Report?

Favourite scene: My favourite moment in the film is when Anakin loses his mother and we see his dark side for the first time. He returns to his love Padme, but we know their happiness is short-lived and the end is nearing. This is the last we will see Anakin untainted by his dark side. It also leaves you waiting to see how Darth Vader came into being.

I also liked the battle with the bounty hunter Jango and his son.

Don't miss: Your favourite Star Wars memories?
